From my experience namecheap is definitely the way to go if you wish to have whois protection and get cheap domains. But I can't deny that godaddy is the best when they have their specials or deals which they do often every month or two. If your ever going to search for domain availably use instant domain search (google it).
I like namecheap for domains. My brother had bought several from them. Also, they will give out many for free around holidays like Christmas. Just follow them on twitter as that's where it is held. Questions will go out and the first to get it right wins.
Namecheap is also my favorite. I have not bought any domains, but I know a couple of friends that have bought some from Namecheap. They bought other domains from other websites, and they said that Namecheap is way up on their good list
I get my domains from 123-reg.co.uk because , It's in GBP which is the currency i use, It's fairly cheap most of the time and they usually have offers on special domains
If you can't get the .com name you want, cause it's already taken, you can always stick another word on the end, making it unique. For instance, if you wanted the .com name freegirlgames.com and that was taken you could always register freegirlgamesonline.com (assuming that's available) or myfreegirlgames.com. As for the best place to buy a domain name, I would say Bravenet, only cause I've used them before. If you are in the market for a super cheap domain, try Godaddy, cause they have .info domains for $1.99 for the first year. You won't have the advantage of the .com prestige, though. Really though, a good .com domain name is an investment and only costs around $10 a year. Most things in daily life are way more expensive than that. Anyone should really be able to afford a meager $10 for a .com domain name. Well, unless you are buying in bulk. But, for the average user you can get by with just one forum, one domain name should be enough.
I would purchase a domain wherever I could get the best deal. I currently get unlimited space and bandwidth with my host, but a new domain would cost me $14 if purchased through them. So if I found a sale somewhere I would just buy it there, then transfer it over (assuming it is affordable).
I have most of mine registered with 1and1, most of them. But I've been thinking about moving. Their DNS control panel (and about everything else) is just horrible, but I've used them for a long time back when I had a dedicated server (big mistake). Names are cheap seems to be the best that I've seen. GoDaddy is fine the first year, then you get whacked after that, and they try to nickle and dime every service they offer into part of your plan, as if you need it. I'm completely turned off by GoDaddy, and their hosting products are CRAP.
I'm going with GoDaddy, because of their Private registrations (I don't really like the idea of making my details available to every scammer out there). It's ok to give them to GoDaddy, or a company that respects them, but not in public! I'm always though in search to find some cheaper company. Any suggestions?
That's what I figured. I've had many opportunities to buy either domains or hosting from GoDaddy and could never bring myself to do so. Just recently I found a really good hosting company with unlimited web space (no ads) for $3.99 a month and they registered my new forum domain name too. And, the good thing about registering the domain name with the same company hosting your site is that you don't have to deal with the hassle of changing the name servers.
I myself am a rather loyal Go Daddy disciple, despite any objections. I tried to break away from them once. However, it's too hard to deal with the Domain Name Servers when I would try.
