I was the guitarist (both lead and rhythm guitar) and also did some backing vocals and keyboard fillings for the student's band on the music school I was attending. We were doing one concert at the end of the year, to show the parents that we are actually learning something. But unfortunately that school closed and everyone went on their seperate way...
I'm not a singer, but always thought it would be a cool job. Of course, I'd need a pretty awesome voice to do that. My daughter is the real singer though, which is kind of surprising considering her age and lack of formal training. She's got unspoiled untampered with talent and that is the best kind. The other day, she was sitting in front of her computer playing a free online game (Me & my dinosaur) and she started singing to the screen, just making things up. She took a part of that eighties song, 'You spin me right round baby,' and adlibbed a lot of good stuff into the song. I didn't know she could sing so well or make up songs like that before then. Well, I do now and that means a synthesizer keyboard for Christmas and probably a microphone. The child loves hearing her own voice.
I've been both a band member and a singer. However, as far as singing I usually did it solo. I want to practice more songs and memorize them instead of just doing them on Karaoke. That way I can hopefully be in a band at some point.
