Do you sell ad place on your websites for other webmasters to buy and advertise their forums with? If so, how much do you usually charge? It really depends on the location of the ad for me. It's at the top of the page then, of course, it will cost a bit more. I don't usually have set prices either. I take many factors into count such as the genre of website/forum, the owner's reputation and income, and a few other factors. I haven't opened up my current forum up for ad space yet but I plan to sometime in the future.
I don't sell it yet I use Google Adsense though if the site grew a significant amount then it may be something I consider doing as adsense doesn't generate a lot of revenue for me. I've never really sold it out other than to Google it's finding people who want to buy it I suppose, especially when your site isn't as active as other large sites out there.
You could always check out ForumPromotion.net There you can post your website traffic and users will make offers. I had a guy on my old forum paying me $5 a month for an ad space. That was only one guy and I had others too so I made 15-20 bucks per month which comes in handy.
I sell adspace on my forum and thats my main source of revenue for AdminBB. It takes care of hosting and other payments.
Thanks for the link to ForumPromotion.net. I'll be sure to check it out. I wasn't already aware of their services. Right now, I'm just using Adsense on my blogs and forum as well as TheNewsRoom videos which monetize when played. The videos don't pay much, just $3.50 per 1000 views or $0.50 per 1000 autoplays (video loads when the page loads automatically). But, it's an easy way to monetize a page without worrying about content. There are some really interesting videos to choose from. And, I've been paid by the company a couple times. They're very reliable.
I never really thought about actively selling it. What I mean is I dont advertise on forums saying that I am selling ad space. However, if someone were to ask for some ad space then I would happily sell it to them for a reasonable price. Too much ads will ruin the site though so only like two ads at a time for me.
I've sold small unobtrusive text links for $50/year for SEO purposes, but I don't sell any regular ads designed to get clickthroughs as they would compete with my well paying Adsense ads and maybe even earn me less overall. The kind of rates I'd have to charge to be sure I was coming out ahead would be unreasonable. I also setup Adwords targeting so someone wanting to advertise on my website could actually pick which banner locations they want and bid high enough to keep it there as they wish.
I don't sell ad space I don't think its worth it. For the few $ they bring in they ruin the integrity of the forum. The only time I would consider it is if was really high traffic website.
I don't sell ad space, because it's not earning you much unless you have a really big community and have lots of clickthru conversions. On my websites I'm experimenting with CPM ads and I insert here and there a few paid shortlinks that will show the targeted website in a frame, and put a banner on top. They are not paying much if you have a couple of visitors per day, but most of them pay ~$1 per 1000 pageviews (that's an average). So if you get 5000-6000 hits per week, you can make some money to help pay the hosting bills
Do you have a referral link to the News Room. This sounds interesting to me. You can send me a private message to avoid breaking forum rules. Currently I am using Chitika. I just started with them and so don't have much to review yet. They have a $20 minimum payment to Paypal, which is much lower than Google's $100. Adsense banned me because I put my sites in a traffic exchange to try and generate traffic. At least that's what I think why. --- merged: Jul 3, 2011 at 8:42 PM --- Where do you get the CPM ads from?
I recently started to sell Ad Space. Depending on the location, I sell for at most $10 based on a fixed time amount.
I haven't sold ad space yet. I wonder what the minimum daily traffic should be before I were to start doing so. I probably could sell it real cheap, like a dollar a year for now. LOL
