Yes, these days it is so easy to find knock-offs or products which are clearly imitations. Visit Hong Kong or even better China to know the extent of product piracy ranging from wearables, gadgets, foods, toys and everything else.

They are so cheap and sometimes they even look so real.

I would, but not when it comes to electronics. I'm very particular about electronic and cannot stand any lag or hardware problems. When it comes to clothes, I have no issue with that.

Same as Mian Bao... I won't buy cheap knock-offs when it's electronic related. BUT: I do import most of my (usb and audio) cables from Hongkong. These are of course knock-offs or without a brand, but they do work. I can't see why I have to pay twice the amount for a cable . I will of course never buy a fake iPod or tablet or so..

And when it comes to clothes: I don't actually like to wear 'brands' so I'll never buy a shirt that says "Hugo Boss" in capital letters all over the chest.. :p

Yeah, cables are the exception. Wires are normally cheap, it's only because nobody else sells that why Apple makes it so ridiculously expensive.

I am willing to buy a knock-off on mostly anything if it works. My kids things are definitely something I will not buy cheap, especially dealing with safety.

I'm not exactly particular when it comes to "brands". However, I take into consideration the price and the probability of how durable the item might be. If the item is as cheap as its price, well, I'd rather settle for something more expensive but guaranteed to last for a long long time. I don't like buying imitations as they are usually of poor quality. :D Which means, I will have to replace and purchase new one to replace the previous item.

    Yes I would,
I totally agree with Mian Boa. I would use cheaper imitation, but not when it comes to electronics.

As you say, there's no substitute for the original electronics. A knock-off imitation ipod is still a fake, no matter how sleek it looks. And, you are going to lose some functionality with a second-rate quality item. However, I do want to point out the difference between fake and open source. For instance, some software is free and open source but that does not make it fake. You can get many free version of software online and they are just as effective as a paid version that does the same thing. This is especially true of spyware removers.

The only 'knock off' item I have ever purchased have been Louis Vuitton and Gucci bags from China town back in the days when I was in college. These bags were an exact replica of the real time for only $25 or $35, some for $60 when real retail is anywhere between $100 to $600. I wouldnt buy them anymore though, if I cant afford the real thing then I rather not buy a fake. But they sure did look good!!! =)

I would rather wear generic branded clothes than fake designer brands because it's extremely mortifying if you're found out. According to a study, people who are inclined to wear knockoffs intend to feel insincere about themselves. That feeling is then projected outwards, leading them to view others more cynically and be more inclined to cheating and dishonesty. The study is here if you're interested in reading it.

Yeah, but not if they're tacky and really look 'cheap'. Think Kate Middleton's engagement ring. Apparently a lot of people snagged knock-off versions of it. If it's just to follow a craze, and for the fun of it, why not?

I've purchased knock-offs before. It really depends on the product for me. Certain perfumes, accessories and even electronics are a few of the things I've purchased in the past with no problems. If my funds are limited, I always look for a bargain. ;)

Imitations aren't supposed to be that good when it comes to quality. Though I admit that I have bought a cellphone which is an imitation of Nokia E series. Never had any issues with using it at all and serves me well with the features of it which is very useful to me.

It is always best to check the goods we buy thoroughly as even branded ones can also have flaws sometimes.

I could buy a a cheap knock off of a designer bag or a clothing line but I agree with you, I would not buy cheap electronics. I Suffered so many losses because of my " cheapness" lol. Enough is enough, when it comes to electronic items, Original and branded is the way to go :throwball:
