Which business "genre" do you think has the most potential on the internet right now? Everyone knows Search and Social Networking are taken but what other avenues have potential?

I'm thinking the online gaming industry hasn't been full capitalized on yet. Then there's the blogging world that just keeps growing...

What do you guys think? :)

I think wireless communication is going to explode as people move away from their wired connections. When the economy recovers, smart home products that communicate with each other or the world will be big, like refrigerators that order groceries and ovens that store menus and such.
GetPaidTo sites also have potential if you know how to get the members, have coding skills, and can get deals that offer a lot of profit.

Mobile computing that leverages the Internet. More and more people are going to use smartphones and tablets, and demand that applications take advantage of the more sophisticated interfaces, and that they leverage the mobility features on these devices such as GPS, camera, video, and voice, making use of the wireless access to link out to cloud services and social networks. These devices will continue to add new features and the software will get more competitive. It's changing everything, my iPad has already become my preferred means of reading books, checking the latest news, playing music, and a lot more.

The other trend I'll predict is more people getting rid of traditional TV connections like cable and satellite, and just going with Internet based services. There's all sorts of bluray players and devices that can connect straight into your TV and stream movies and music for no monthly fee, or you can stream Netflix at a cost far below normal TV service. Most of the stuff on TV is crap, if I can pay for just the things I want, I'm sold.

I like all the ideas you mentioned above, I am thinking about that as well of what are online business that will cater the needs of people. Seems, most of the people now are into electronics and gadgets but the competitors also are worldwide. It is a matter of finding a niche and establish a name to get successful. I still consider buying and sell or a party coordinator especially if you live in the big where parties are everywhere...

Internet is a great tool to promote your business, however I feel that at the end of the day you still need to sell your product or services. Now if you are serious about starting a business, might I suggest you look into the travel and tourism industry. In 2010 it was said to be worth 7 trillion dollar and yet less people are involved in this industry then in health and wellness which is 100 times smaller. Perhaps you like to message me and we discuss to see how we can get involved in the industry.

Internet is an all-encompassing medium of doing business -- which means to say that we can use it in whatever way we want to in reaching either a big global market or a small niche one. As to blogging, yes this will continue to grow as people are finding out how easy it is to use WordPress in publishing contents. Gaming is a very big market and with a young population springing everywhere you definitely have a very lucrative market to lean on -- but always think ahead that competition is also very stiff here. I suggest you start getting immerse with doing business online and once you are ready find the right market where you will concentrate most of your hard work.

A GetPaidTo site is a good idea just make sure you find a good script and theme.

Just recently, I was on a getpaid to site owned by a good online friend and happened to click through on the link at the bottom of her site and found another site selling the GPT sites for as little as $15 (not including monthly hosting). That price included auto installation. Totally awesome deal!

I don't find it hard to get members for anything. If I do a business opportunity and get paid and actually like it, then it's easy to truthfully tell someone else how great that program is and why they should join and cash in too.

Mobile-related sites are defenitely a hit right now and will be for some time. There are only a few big forums about smartphones and downloads for them, and this is definitely a potential that should be used. On the other side, it's pretty hard to start an internet business that'll become succesful. Also, monetizing a forum isn't very easy these days.
