With almost 600 million users worldwide, Facebook can be considered to be the third largest country if all members are taken together. And where people are congregating, scammers and spammers are also feasting.

We must always be aware of the dangers posed by these threats to our personal and financial safety.

This is very interesting! I need to be on the lookout more often. Not only are there facebook scammers, but also people who post viruses disguised as downloadable movies, music, programs, etc. I have sadly been a victim to it...

Its a good thing I never fell for such. Those "Hey, is this you in the video?" something like that spam and viruses. Its really annoying. My sister however, got infected and now her account posts link even if she doesn't use it.. =.= She always receive errors like, "someone was trying to access your account" from a different location. =.= Screw you Facebook:mad:

I've often wondered if this is the best time for a new social networking site to emerge. Facebook has gone down the gutter while all its monetizing over the last 2 years. I'm sick of it all. The rampant viruses, scams, selling out its users to advertisers, constant page layout changes and the loosening of privacy. But I guess the main hurdle to overcome for a new player is the fact people have years of their life already recorded there.

I never click on links from Facebook for this very reason, not even from my friends. If they want to show me something interestng, they can tell me about it and I'll seek it out on the internet myself from somewhere that I know is safe and secure.

This is very useful for people that are new to internet and computers. I would never fall on scams like fake login page, fake message from a friend or a virus, but most people would, and it's necessary to inform them.

Facebook users should be aware about it to avoid being a victim. There are times that i was tagged for a certain video by a friend which i suspect is against her will cause this video is odd. So i never attempt to watch it. There are some other scams in Facebook that is annoying cause i keeps showing up. Better to be vigilant and avoid clicking any unknown and suspicious links.

I don't open links that unfamiliar to me. I've worked too hard to keep my computer in great shape and I'm not willing to give my hard earned money to someone totally unknown. With the growing popularity of Facebook, I think it may get worse in the near future. So many scam artists are always looking for new opportunities.

I had someone hack my FB account once and send all my H.S. classmates e-mails from it. This was so embarrassing that I put on my status message that this is not me. I wanted people to be aware of the situation, and then I changed my FB password. I reported the incident to Facebook too.

I think it's getting annoying, the increase of spam in FB seems to cheapen the whole experience for me. It's getting old, seeing weird links or status updates that are clearly spam.

Scammers and spammers seem to always be one step ahead of Facebook or any other social networking site. They engineers at Facebook only fix the holes once it has been detected and they don't seem to be taking any preemptive action also. We cannot completely blame them also. There are some people who will click on any link they see... and fall into the trap.

Facebook is the new battleground for scam artists. I believe it is high time some people take a social networking for dummies lesson. Considering the fact that Facebook became such a big network, they should implement this for all newcomers. People need to know what personal information to publish online.
