Well my brother arrived in Madeira today we went for a beer first of all followed by a nice cake a walk along the sea all was going well until we decided to go get something to eat from McDonalds.

I paid no problem my brother paid but decided to pay with a 50 Euro note because it was ripped and wanted to see if he could get rid of it. The manager said she had to call her supervisor to see if she could accept it because it was ripped.

We waited for a long period of time and then the Portuguese police turn up and arrest my brother for having a fake Euro note he has now landed himself a court date over here when he's only been in the country less than a few hours.

The police over here are right idiots I mean you'd think it was obvious he was a tourist and had been given a fake note how was he meant to know.

Like I tried explaining to the police if we new it was fake we would have left during the very long wait for the police but we really didn't have an idea. The police failed to understand this and just about anything we said we didn't know what they were saying either.

My brother was then asked to sign loads of forms in Portuguese that he didn't understand and had nothing explained to him shocking I'd say.

    What an eventful day lol

They didn't understand a word he said.
You think they would have at least got someone on the phone to translate what was being said across parties.
Fookin stupid if you ask me.

Yea he has to go to some Tribunal court on Monday apparently to explain where he got the Euro from.
I suppose you have to see the funny side of it. Sod an idiot abroad Daniel is an idiot abroad haha.
Nah but seriously it wasn't his fault :/ we we're having an awesome time as well.
So much for the police being understanding.
They started getting physical with me pushing me around wanted to punch the guy but he had a gun so I figured it was probably in my best interest to let him push me around haha.

He tried calling them this evening we're still dumb struck with all this not sure of our rights.
It's a tribunal court so not sure what's happening we're all a little confused.
From what we understand he just has to explain where he got the fake Euro from.

Thanks for that he went to court today and all went well.

We even made it into the Madeira newspaper lol which really helped because it said in there that the police genuinely believed we didn't know the money was fake and in the court they just wanted to explain what we can do about the money being taken and that we can apply for it back if we wanted which we don't we're just glad it's all over now lol.

So yea wasn't as bad as we thought it was going to be.

Well it was in the court building but it was so informal they had someone who could speak English and they took him in an office on his own with just this lady who could speak English.

Strange thing is they wasn't expecting him so I don't think he HAD to go they just wanted to know what happened in detail where he bought the notes from etc.

Where did he get the notes from a UK Post office and a Bureo de change?

No he got them from a family member he paid 180 quid for 200 Euros in 50s but the family member didn't know they were fake he thought he got himself a great deal because it was a straight swap no commission.

The family member got them from a friend who he thought he could trust obviously not. Anyway long story short my brother had learned a very hard lesson and will only be getting them from the post office in future.
