Compare everything before buying. Bank accounts, utilities, loans, insurance etc etc while the savings individually may seem minute if you compare and get the cheapest and best offer on everything your paying out on you save a considerable amount of money and it only takes a short amount of time to do the research and switch.

I think it's very important to pay attention to your spending habits. Cut down on anything that's unnecessary. Last year or the year before I noticed how much I spent on fast food. The only reason I noticed was because I had a certain amount of money in my wallet that I was gifted for my birthday. I didn't spend it on anything else and when I checked it I realized it was almost gone. That's when I realized that in the course of a couple of weeks I spent around $100 on fast food. This wasn't only on myself of course. I was buying food for both myself and my boyfriend because he wasn't working at the time.

You can try to keep track of your spending and what the money was spent on to better budget and control your money. Budget carefully.

Like Debs has stated, you can buy food in bulk. It is a lot cheaper to buy fresh vegetables and meat and cook food at home rather than eating outside at a restaurant or ordering in. You get a lot more food for the same price of a restaurant meal.

Use coupons to buy your food. My cousin recently bought around 5 bags of food for only $10 because she used coupons and was able to combine coupons. It's time consuming, but it can save you a lot of money. I remember seeing on television that people could buy cartloads of food with coupons for very little money.

I also would have a bank account for just savings that I would not allow myself to touch. I am currently not working so I am not doing this, but my mother does this. That way she knows that she has money to fall back on.

If you have some extra money that you don't need in the near future you can visit your bank and speak to a financial adviser to learn of ways that you can make your money work for you. You can maybe open an annuity or find other ways to invest your money. Just make sure that you ask questions, because there are some methods that involve risk, and you can lose everything. I stick to safer investments, rather than high risk ones.

I usually buy magazines and cut out coupons eg. coupons that can have 20% discounts.
Differentiate what is a need and a want. I will usually put the stuffs i want aside first until i have feel that i feel that it is the correct time now to reward myself for saving money:).

The best tip I can give is to not buy stuff you don't need. You'd be surprised not only how much you save, but also how less cluttered your home will feel.

The next tip I would give is don't borrow to buy things. Look at the mess too much credit has caused in the world.

The best advice I can give is make sure you eat before going to the grocery store. You would be shocked on how much you can save. When your hungry everything looks appetizing and you buy things you don't really need.

I can only suggest that you should save money whenever possible. Don't give into the temptation of spending extra money. You never know when you'll need it for another day. :)

I try to be somewhat careful too. I use coupons and view my weekly ad before I shop for food. I don't believe in accumulating material things that I don't need. Sometimes I use eBay like it's a yard sale where I list used items that I'm ready to get rid of. I also don't have expensive taste. I experience a sense of satisfaction when I make a financially intelligent decision. I also use reward cards to accumulate points so occasionally I get things for free.
