Do you think time travel is possible? I've been reading a lot of topics on this recently and have seen some great arguments for and against. So just thought I would ask others opinions and see there reasoning behind it.
No/maybe it's not you should watch the new Stephen Hawkins Universe on the Discovery channel. Basically travelling through time wouldn't work because: Travelling to the past - Anything we did would have a ripple effect on the future and change the future what if you could go back to the day you were born and kill yourself what would happen? Also Stephen Hawkin did a very simple test he made an invitation to time travellers to come to his party in the future and placed co-ordinate details on the invitation and everything and no one turned up. Also the theory behind worm holes and other such theories were dismissed due to radiation that would kill us even if it were possible. Travelling to the future - Maybe possible by travelling large distances at very high speed but again this could cause a lot of risks also in the immediate future having fuel and an engine or something that would be able to reach such speeds and cover such distances is almost impossible maybe it will be in the future but I find it very unlikely as does Stephen Hawkins.
Yes, by using hypnotism. But one would only see his past (past life regression). I don't believe though in the claim of some hypnotists that they could make a person see his future.
I really do not think that it is possible simply because of the fact that it would TOTALLY alter the future for anyone and everyone. Not to mention the fact that you would have to travel so fast that you would die long before you went to the past.
No, time travel is a fantasy like turning lead into gold. It cannot be done because time is a man-made measurement used to record history. It doesn't actually exist.
Time is just a concept. I do not believe time travel is possible. It just goes against the laws of physics.
Yes it is possible, time is of the same entity as space hence space-time. Therefore if you can warp space (and you can) then you can also warp time and in fact you can't really do one without the other. There is are noticeable time differences on earth versus space and other planets because of the warping of space and thus time. The mass of the Earth causes the fabric of space to bulge downward like a hammock. This causes an incline thats pulls an object toward the center of gravity like a ball going down a ramp. This is what causes gravity (not to be confused with quantum gravity). This incline also speeds up the amount of distance covered moment by moment thus speeds up time as any measurement now happens at an accelerated pace. The relative manifestation and measurement of space-time a certain conscious point of view is called "Relativity" http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/Outreach/Explore_Our_Universe/What_is_Warped_Spacetime?/ Likewise, the faster you go in relation to your measurement of time - that is to say that the more distance you cover per unit of time- the faster time flies The amazing thing is the relativity of it- Because you are the observer and you are using a constant measurement of time your perception of the time past doesn't change. So time outside of the focal point (you) travels much faster than you through time. This allows you to speed up time without having to age or "live" through the time gap! This is a great video on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JKdqKtNPsU&NR=1 Race-car drivers are actually a few moments younger after the race. Another method of time travel is to manipulate the various cycles that manifest time on the quantum level. Even more reason it can be done. Time is not linear, but our perception of it is. Our measurement of that perception from one state to another is man-made measurement. And you could turn lead into gold if you could manipulate the quantum level.... just saying. No, it doesn't. Time may be a concept but that does not mean it isn't tangible. Space is also a concept as momentum. A chair is a concept, that does not mean it isn't real. That which we call time- our linear measurement thereof, is man-made by nature of our awareness but relativity has allot to do with perception- that's the genius of it. The cycles that make up that linear perception by the causation of manifestation are very real. Linear perception of time is just the mind putting into sequence a reality that is constantly recreating itself. Just because one can do something does not mean one should do something. If your premise is that it isn't possible or that we haven't figure it out because because the timeline hasn't been altered - how do you know that it hasn't? Actually the faster you travel the further into the future you would go... unless you calculate for an inverse curve. Why not? Our linear perception of time is created by our minds when in-fact everything actually happens at once. Temporal mechanics are complicated though - just because everything has happened does not mean that everything is predestined. Honestly, these are all cop-outs. Obviously there are obstacles, we aren't simply operating a lemon-aid stand here. Again just because we shouldn't do something does not mean it is not possible; and to answer your question you would create a temporal paradox or a possibly tear in the space-time continuum which is basically where the boundary between one reality and another has broken down because the paradox has created two simultaneous states that cannot be reconciled within the current dimension of reality. You could also invite me to show up; that doesn't mean I will. If temporal mechanics are so vulnerable don't you think there aught to be a directive against messing with the timeline? I suppose that depends on the wormhole in question, however protection is needed for any hospitable environment. That shouldn't be to much to account for - we are making time our play-thing after all. It's not that it is impossible but rather that it is impossible with our level of technology... that is a huge clarification as we wont get to that point if we predetermine that it wont happen. We need three things things: a) something that can generate an energy field powerful enough to warp space-time b) a way to manipulate the field c) a way to power the thing - something that can produce high-energy plasma would be nice..... M/AM reactor anyone?
My brain kind of hurts, after reading all of that. I agree with the above poster, maybe the time travelers were too busy, to dine with Mr. Hawkins. Plus, what if the travelers did not want to be known! If everyone knew who the travelers were, they would be hounded. I believe anything can exist. Just because I can not grasp the concept, have never seen it happen, and science says it is impossible, does not mean it can not happen. Do you think the cavemen ever imagined we would have cars, Internet, rockets, and all this cool technology?
