Executions have been happening since time immemorial, civilizations from the Roman empire to the French Monarchy have made use of this form of punishment. Currently, 58 countries in the world actively practice capital punishment, with 95 having abolished it.

In some south asian countries such as in Singapore, Drug trafficking, murder, kidnapping, mutiny and piracy among others are offenses punishable by death. Singapore is in no way a backward or developing nation but the death sentence is carried out for offenses which elsewhere would not even be considered as felony but a Misdemeanor.

Is this an effective way to ensure that a convicted felon pays his dues to society ? Does society treat a criminal in an ethical fashion ?

For me, the death penalty is one of those things I have a hard time picking a side on just like abortion. I can easily say that I am against abortion and I am against the death penalty, but there are always cases where I make exceptions. Cases such as child molestation and serial killers, they can burn in hell in my opinion.

The death penalty is a hard one for me as well. I don't think someone should be put to death for drug trafficking and piracy though. The people who have committed those crimes haven't learned anything if you just kill them. Prison time, yes. Death, probably not. Like the kersug02 said above, murderers and child pedophiles should have their heads chopped off by a guillotine.
