If I found out a 'good friend' were talking bad about me behind my back and spreading malicious lies, I couldn't be friends with her anymore. That's just me, everyone has their own standards for how they will let themselves be treated.

What is the worst thing a friend could do to you that would make you feel alienated like you didn't want to be their friend anymore?

Yeah talking about a friend behind their back is kind of like a betrayal. I try not to hang out with people who are constantly bad-mouthing others, because eventually they'll be bad-mouthing me.

It's such an easy trap to get caught up in listening to idle gossip about another person. But, when you put yourself in the other person's place and ask how it would make you feel if that were happening behind your back and you were getting cut down to size, it's easy to justify not hanging out with those kind of friends.

Most of my friends bash each other in one form or another, I guess it is probably best to lie about someone in front of their face so they can defend themselves and/or laugh at the lies.

Anyone that lies is definetely not friend material. How can you trust someone who can possibly lie to you, or worst share your personal life/secrets with others!

Best thing to do is ignore them, stop answering email, phone ect. And when you do talk to them come up with a busy excuse every time your on the phone or when they want to get together. :coffee:

I would say basically just spreading rumors about me. However, I would probably ask them why they are doing that and ask them nicely to stop. This hasn't ever happened to me though, but ts probably what I would do.

Grounds for dismissal would definitely include betraying my trust and sharing all my personal details. That's a major no no in any type of friendship. Keep thy lips sealed no matter what happens. :p

Stabbing someone at the back is simply a traitor. My closed friends are bashing each other but I don't really participate. I am not the type of person who adds a problem to another problem. If someone do that on me, I just simply ignore it.

One thing I have a difficult time with...is when a friend...decides to take advantage of my kindness. I know it's my responsibility to stop that kind of behavior but sometimes the only way I know how to stop it is to distance myself from that person. I won't allow myself to be manipulated or used.
