And, the reason I'm asking is cause my daughter wants a puppy, but I'm worried we will end up with a dangerous dog in the house, just cause it was cute as a puppy. Of course, the dog would have to be an outdoor pet, at least when it's older, cause of our four indoor cats. Still, I'm wondering what breed of dog is considered dangerous and which breeds are safe, especially around children.
I haven't had many dogs, but the pitbull is known for its tendency to snap and kill a person randomly.
I heard somewhere that a little girl was mauled to death by the family pitbull or was it a Rottweiler. For sure, I would NEVER EVER have one of those dogs in my house. From what I hear, they were a very good family and never abused the dog as a puppy, but the puppy must have come from one of those puppy mills. Scientific studies have shown that aggression in an animal is a genetically inherited condition related to the amount of testosterone in the animal's body.
The dogs were specifically bred to take down rampant bulls in the field, and are incredibly strong. Even if the dog doesn't snap, they can be too strong to handle on a leash. I knew some neighbors who's dogs broke through the fairly new wooden fence by just hurling themselves against it several times.
Wow! I had no idea they had been bred for that purpose. And, it's true, most service dogs did originate with a useful function. In this particular situation, an enraged bull could actually cause harm or kill someone. But, the dogs are not suited for pets. Our neighbor has, what looks like a pitbull or pit bull blend dog and I'm always worried the dog will get out of her pen and attack one of the neighborhood children. Though I guess she's not too dangerous, cause they have four kids and none of them have been injured by the dog, from what I know. Still, I'm always sure not to let my own daughter play in the yard when the dog is out and when we leave the house, we go from door to car and get in and leave, with no dawdling in the yard. You know, just in case the dog gets out and comes over to investigate. You never know what will set a dog off or make it attack, a smell, a sound, you just never know.
Pit Bulls are the most dangerous, with Rottweilers taking the second place easily. Pit Bulls are the most sought after breed for dog fighting as well. The most amazing thing is that they weigh only around 50-60 pounds. For the third and fourth place I'd recommend German Shepherds and Huskies.
I have a Rottweiler and a Doberman. I have had Dobermans, a Dalmation and a Great Dane. The primary purpose is guarding. Rottweilers are a dangerous breed. My Rottweiler does not even allow my wife or kid to enter the house or go out. So I had to tie it before allowing them in or out of the house. From my experience, I can say that Rottweiler is one of the best option as a guard dog. At my place, the Rottweiler is the dog in charge though it is younger than my other dogs. If you are looking for a big dog, then you can have a look at Great Dane. They are not ferocious and are very friendly with kids. In my opinion, Dobermans are more ferocious than German Shepherd and I am not sure about the Huskies.
