Do you think it's alright to give a pet scraps from the dinner table? Most times, I try to restrict my cats to just Purina cat food or canned cat food. But, on occasion, I give ALL my cats a little bit of rotisserie chicken as a treat. My indoor/outdoor female cat (Little Buddy) really seems to enjoy the chicken and comes back everyday for more.
yeah, only for a couple of days at the end of the month when I'm broke and am waiting for my paycheck lol But my little beast seems to like scraps. It probably likes everything that's edible
That's a good idea. I save all my table scraps too in the freezer in a clean plastic ice cream bucket. And, then when I run out of cat food, I am able to afford to feed my cats for a day or two until I can get to the grocery store. Of course, I'm always sure to thaw in the microwave. Cats don't like frozen food. Also, my table scraps feeds the outdoor cat, Little OC. He's ALWAYS hungry, never stops eating and is going to be as big as a house soon, just like his dad.
OMG I could kill my wife (figure of speech) for giving our cat table scraps. He is a HUGE begger now, he eats any kind of meat. He will sit at your feet and meow and cry until we give him table scraps. I am pretty upset with my wife over her giving him table scraps to him he use to be such a good cat.
Oh no! Don't be mad. Feeding the kitty babies treats is just part of being a good mommy. I feed bits of chicken and such to my cats to make them love me. And it works. Cats are easily bought off. Or, maybe I am the one paying for their love.
I don't see an issue with it sure people say it's bad for the animals but lets be real here they say a lot is bad for pets just like humans it doesn't do my pets any harm so I'm not going to stop my pets are fit and healthy so why should I be bothered about it that's the way I see it anyway
And, really it's the only way to keep Little Buddy, my indoor/outdoor cat, coming back home. When I stop feeding her bits of chicken, she disappears for days and I worry about her health. I'm worried she will run off like my Orange Cat (tom male cat). He went off a couple months back and hasn't returned. I'm hoping he will pop back up this winter when it gets too cold to free range. Till then, I'm taking good care of the two kittens he left behind, Little OC and Sally. They're my babies.
Actually, dogs and cats love eating scraps and left-overs. Though, of course, this is not really advisable. I admit I also do this from time to time.
My cat must be strange, we try to feed her scraps but she is so fussy. She will only eat gourmet meat in jelly either chicken or tuna flavour, or beef flavour cat chews. The cat chews are her favourite, she's addicted to them.
My female cat, EB, is the same way. She will sniff at the chicken scraps and turn up her nose and prance away. She's very well fed otherwise. Though she does prefer moist cat food and will beat all the other cats up to get their share. She's small but mighty!
My cat pretty much eats better than I do. I give her canned meat twice a day, and some premium dry food for the day. Then she gets to nibble on my dinner. She basically just jumps in my lap and puts her face in my plate. There are times when I have to shoo her away because what I'm eating is bad for her, like broccoli and cheese always gives her the runs but she wants it. I spoil her but she's my buddy.
My parents use to always tell me not to give our cat human food when I was a kid. But I used to do it anyway. I would always feel bad that we had this good stuff and the cat had to eat tender vittles all the time. So yeah, I use to share with the cat when I could. The begging and stuff didn't bother me at all to be honest.
Yeah, I will give my poodle some of my scraps from time to time. A side effect from this though is that hes always waiting for it when you are eating (begging.) Ill have to tell him no and he gets all sad in the face and just stairs at me lol. Hes a good dog though.
Our yorkie is like a K9 garbage disposal, the dog will eat anything you give him and anything he can steal... however, we do keep it to a minimum... dont want to give him the runs either you know.
We give our dogs most of our table scraps. At least it makes the dog food last longer. I try to feed my cat real food sometimes, but he never wants to take it from a person. He'd rather jump on the counter and try to steal food that I'm planning to eat.
My cats are the same way. All of them are my friends. So much so that my middle cat is named Little Buddy. Though my daughter who was then three years old named her that after watching Will Ferrel in 'Elf.' There's a line in there about 'Little Buddy' when the elves discover a baby in Santa's toy sack after visiting an orphanage. Both my male cats, Big Man and Orange Cat (MIA) are that way. They will literally jump up on the dinner table and start eating out of a bowl if you turn your back for a second. No food is safe around those two. But, they make my life interesting and happy, so no booting either one out the door for good. I wouldn't think of it.
I always want to to be honest but I never do. I always see him sitting there and he is pretty patient and he looks soooo cute! I just cant help myself and I always think about giving him food but I rarely do. I know that if I do then he will keep expecting it and it wont be good.
A very good point. You have to do what's right by your cat or dog. Sometimes, I have to put my troublesome food stealing cats in the laundry room during food preparation and dinner time or else they will eat plates of human food and be sick. I try to limit human food to just small chicken scraps, their favorite. Though my male cat, Big Man, does like eating veggies, peas, carrots, corn especially. He's a good ol' boy country cat cause that's where he was born. The other cats don't understand the veggie attraction, having been born in the city. It's cat cuisine for them or nothing!
