Most times, I put so many toppings on my hot dog bun, the sandwich falls apart. My favorite hotdog toppings include: coleslaw, chili, chopped onions, pickle relish, American sliced cheese, salsa and sour cream. Plus, there are an assortment of condiments to add to the hot dog, including ketchup, mayo and mustard. And, yes, I have actually added ALL of those toppings to just ONE hotdog bun. What are your favorite hot dog toppings?
Wow! Really? I can't imagine having a hot dog with no toppings. For me, the point of eating hot dogs ARE the toppings. Really, I could live without the actual hot dog. I could take it or leave it. Sure, the hot dog adds a little bit of flavor. But, the real flavor comes from all that chopped onion and pickle relish. I could just as easily put all those toppings on a taco. Well, maybe not pickle relish, cause that would just be weird. And, the condiments would be different. But, you get my point.
Fried onions with a sliver of ketchup and mustard. Delicious if you ask me, I can ea hotdogs on there own without the buns or anything they're really tasty.
A bunless hotdog? Now there's a notion I'll have to try. Right now, my favorite way to eat hotdogs other than with a regular hotdog bun is to cut open Italian bread and split the hotdog and pile high with toppings. Then I cut the concoction in half and eat like a sandwich. I always use the nitrate free hotdogs cause nitrates are bad for the health.
I have tried hot dogs with everything you mentioned except for sour cream and mayo, will have to try that sometime.
Sour cream adds an interesting flavor that mixes well with shredded cheddar cheese topping. Another one of my favorite toppings. I'm not saying these hotdog toppings are healthy. I'm sure I'd bust my diet if I put all them on at the same time. But, it is nice to have options. Keeps the palette tantalized.
Chopped onions are a favorite hot dog topping of mine, too. This week, I tried out diced red bell peppers on my hotdog and they were absolutely delicious. I can't recommend them more. Wish I'd had some jalapenos or banana peppers, cause that would have made it perfect.
I like mine simple: chili and cheese. I don't like to make a mess when I eat, and I can't stand the raw onion smell afterwards. Simple is good enough for me.
I just eat it plain to avoid more calories. Sometimes, for indulgence, I topped it with low fat cheese to satisfy my craving.
It depends on what I'm in the mood for. Sometimes I drench my hot dog with tons of chili and cheese. While other times I only want mayo, mustard and ketchup. Putting onions or relish are my least favorite toppings for a hot dog.
